My buddy Evan and I decided to go break in our legs on a mediocre ride today. I have not done an actual  >15 minutes, non-commute, real ride since April 14, so I was somewhat wary about getting back on my road bike. The moment I set out from home, I realized how much I missed being on my once-impressive 2008 aluminum/carbon frame road bike, and how fast that thing can go. It made me wonder if I should buy a full carbon framed bicycle for this event. But since it isn't a race, it is somewhat hard to justify.

We picked a 23 mile route in the SF Peninsula starting from my office, commonly known as Mount Eden to cyclists. There was a hill of a moderate 610 ft climb. What was once a leisure route that I could do on my lunch break proved to be somewhat challenging for my quads today. I have a bit of work to do if I'm going to average 80 miles a day for 7 days in a row. And even more work to do if I intend to do it all comfortably.

With stop lights and traffic considered, we averaged 14mph with a maximum speed of 36mph clocked on the downhill, and burned about 807 calories. Not too shabby for a break-in ride. And the post ride meal was worth it.
